Fraud Awareness Campaign

IMPORTANT NOTICE

Protect your bank account and card information.

Campaign date: 2024/10/17
Version 0.28

Criminals use several tricks to steal your card information. Once they have your information, they may use it to make online purchases, register a digital wallet, or download the Money app on their device without your knowledge.

They may pose as Nedbank employees saying that they need to reverse a fraudulent transaction, offer to convert your Greenbacks into cash, send phishing emails or post social media scams where they ask you to share your card details or insert them on a website that you accessed through a link.

In some cases, they ask you to accept an Approve-it message or share a one time-password (OTP) with them to approve the transactions they are making. They may even do a SIM swap on your cellphone number so that you won’t receive your banking notifications.

Tips to stay safe

  1. Never share your card PIN, expiry date and CSC (the security number on the front or back of your card) over the phone or enter them on a website that you accessed via a link.
  2. Read Approve-it messages carefully before accepting them and never disclose your OTP to anyone.
  3. Manage your banking profile - adjust your card limits and toggle off functionalities that you do not need or use.
  4. Avoid entering your card details on websites with unrealistically low-priced products with terms and conditions that automatically enrol you in subscriptions or long-term monthly payments. Take the time to read the terms and conditions.
  5. Call us on 0800 110 929 if you receive an SMS about a SIM swap that you didn't request or if your cellphone is lost or has been stolen.
  6. Call us on 0800 110 929 if you have compromised your card details or suspect fraud.
