Maritzburg United will be delighted with the scheduling of their Nedbank Cup Last 32 clash against Stellenbosch FC for Friday, February 7, which will see them play on what is comfortably their favourite day of the week. Maritzburg have made something of a tradition of playing on Friday night, usually under the lights at the Harry Gwala Stadium, and they have an astonishing record over the past almost three years. The time have played 23 matches on Fridays in that time and lost only once, away at BidVest Wits in a league game a year ago.

It is an amazing show of consistency, especially as the side have struggled for various periods in that time, but always seem to come up with the goods under Friday night lights, no matter the opposition or their perilous position. They have already won twice on a Friday this month, when two goals in the final four minutes secured a come-from-behind victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows, which was followed by a 1-0 success over AmaZulu in another KwaZulu-Natal Derby.

They are at home again to Cape Town City in the league this Friday. Stellenbosch had better get used to playing on Fridays too, after this weekend their next three games are all on that day of the week, including the home Nedbank Cup Last 32 tie with Maritzburg, and then a trip to the Harry Gwala Stadium in the league on February 28. Interestingly, this will be the first ever Nedbank Cup game to be played on a Friday for the 2018 losing finalists.
