The Opportunity

The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the governing organisation, responsible for the training of CAs in South Africa, established training outside public practice (TOPP) in 1997 and Nedbank Group was the first Approved Training Office (ATO) to be accredited as such. This programme is managed according to best practice and we set very high standards.

The 2010 training programme is essential for the maintenance of the status of the CA(SA) qualification because it:
  • provides each trainee with an opportunity to integrate and apply his/her theoretical (academic) knowledge in a practical, real-life environment; and
  • creates a platform for each trainee to develop a base of technical and professional skills, from which he/she can build the professional development required for a future career as a CA(SA). CA @ Nedbank offers the following technical and professional outcomes for our trainees:

Trainees are rotated to various divisions within the group, including:
  • Group Risk
  • Mining and Resources
  • Corporate Banking
  • Group Finance
  • Group Tax
  • Wealth (BoE) 
  • Old Mutual plc
  • Corporate Finance
  • Debtor Management
  • Internal Audit
  • Corporate Credit
       
Rotations may last from 6 to 18 months, depending on individual needs. Although rotations are mostly Gauteng-based, there are exciting rotations in London and Cape Town, for which trainees can apply. Assessment: Technical skills reviews take place six times a year, while professional skills are assessed continuously, and these form part of biannual assessment needs analyses and performance reviews.
