The Experience
Over and above ensuring that the trainee becomes competent in some 93 outcomes, the rotations at Nedbank all have a future career focus, thereby affording every trainee the experience of being challenged to demonstrate adaptability, tenacity and business acumen from day one.
Trainees have a say in how the mix of rotations are tailored to their individual needs, strengths and weaknesses. In this way every trainee takes control of his/her own development in terms of professional and technical skills and learns how to make his/her mark in the corporate world. Most trainees accept permanent positions after training in their division of choice.
Become part of a vibrant select group of 25 to 30 talented, balanced and dynamic individuals who are prepared to share experiences and insights with you on a work, personal and social level.
Wherever a trainee is working during the three years of professional training, he/she becomes part of a supportive team of permanent colleagues and is expected and given the opportunity to make a real contribution to the success of the business and the group at large.
Every year a number of trainees apply for and work in London and other parts of South Africa - this is a three-to-six-month experience of a lifetime.
In addition to this, the programme supports a balanced lifestyle to help you grow personally and professionally. Successes are celebrated and achievements are recognised, and trainees are supported through the good and the bad times.
There are opportunities to develop leadership and organisational skills as part of the involvement in the marketing, recruitment, social and communication committees.
The assessment process is designed to be constructive and formative in nature to ensure best-practice professional and technical skills mastery.
The programme offers exceptional study and developmental benefits outside the SAICA framework. Our proven track record of high pass rates bears testimony to the study support we provide for our trainees.
Trainees have the opportunity and are expected to become responsible citizens through their involvement in social and environmental initiatives
.
It is a special experience, which involves being trained and challenged, working and being with the best of the best.
The Opportunity
The South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA), the governing organisation, responsible for the training of CAs in South Africa, established training outside public practice (TOPP) in 1997 and Nedbank Group was the first Approved Training Office (ATO) to be accredited as such. This programme is managed according to best practice and we set very high standards.
The 2010 training programme is essential for the maintenance of the status of the CA(SA) qualification because it:
- provides each trainee with an opportunity to integrate and apply his/her theoretical (academic) knowledge in a practical, real-life environment; and
- creates a platform for each trainee to develop a base of technical and professional skills, from which he/she can build the professional development required for a future career as a CA(SA).

Rotations may last from 6 to 18 months, depending on individual needs.
Although rotations are mostly Gauteng-based, there are exciting rotations in London and Cape Town, for which trainees can apply. Assessment: Technical skills reviews take place six times a year, while professional skills are assessed continuously, and these form part of biannual assessment needs analyses and performance reviews.
