Introduction

South Africa boasts a rich and diverse cultural and artistic heritage. This heritage has evolved over centuries and has been shaped by events, experiences and the attitude and the soul of its people. The heritage of any country is unique, and, in a healthy society, is a source of national unity and pride. Our rich artistic and cultural diversity has, in the past, been used to create divisions, thus depriving many South Africans of the opportunity and pleasure of understanding and appreciating cultures different from their own. Nedbank is determined to recognise - and celebrate - our unique South African culture - one that is shared by all in our country. The development of arts and culture in all its textures and hues forms an important part of the country’s history, reflecting social, moral, political, cultural and religious attitudes.

It was through this unshakeable belief by Nedbank that the Arts and Culture Trust was formed. Initiated by Nedbank in 1994, and in partnership with Sun International and the Department of Arts, Culture, Science and Technology, the trust funds the preservation and development of arts and culture. Nedbank has provided sustainability for the trust through clients’ use of Nedbank Arts Affinity banking products. Costing the client nothing, Nedbank donates money on client’s behalf to the trust.

Nedbank Arts Affinity is committed - and determined - to play its part in shaping our cultural heritage, and in showcasing it, thus affording both South Africans and the international community the opportunity and pleasure of understanding and appreciating cultures different from their own.
