The BWA is the leading body representing women in business and is recognised by the Government as such. Issues of gender equality and transformation feature very high on the Governments agenda as indeed they do at Nedbank.
There can be no doubting the strategic importance of the BWA with its areas of influence reaching directly to Government. The Women in Corporate Leadership Census is widely used as the sole point of reference in issues relating to gender transformation in business with the BWA executive leadership being frequently consulted by Government. The Department of Trade and Industry (DTi) is a sub sponsor of the Census in 2011. The BWA is also supported by local government and parastatals with senior members frequently attending regional BWA functions. The Businesswoman of the year Awards are recognised and supported as the premier awards for women.
Nedbank is the financial services partner to the BWA and a major sponsor of the Association.

The BWA Businesswoman of The Year Awards supported by Nedbank
Since its inception in 1980, the BWA Businesswoman of the Year Award, partnered by Nedbank has become South Africa’s most prestigious award for women in business. The Award has a number of purposes, which have remained constant over the years. It recognises and honours the achievements of South African women business leaders and helps create a cadre of women role models. The Award also makes a tangible contribution to the next generation of women business leaders by having all proceeds of the annual event go to the BWA Bursary Fund.
Santie Botha, Executive Director Marketing of the MTN Group, is the current BWA Corporate Businesswoman of the Year.
The BWA National and Regional Business Achiever Awards supported by Nedbank.
These Awards recognise outstanding South African businesswomen for their valuable contribution to the SA economy. The Awards celebrate business success and promote the focus on development of businesswomen. They recognise the success of women leaders in business, thereby creating a cadre of female role models whose achievements will inspire other women to raise their sights and reach their goals.
Furthermore the NBAA and RBAA serve to identify women that embody the values and success that the BWA stands for and to leverage their successes as a platform for the inspiration and empowerment of other women.
These enterprising and successful women are nominated by their peers for the fact that they have not only had the courage to establish their own business but also the skills to operate their businesses successfully.
